The Grandfather of Fitness
This guy was ahead of his time.
With the holidays just around the corner, people are busier than normal. It’s an easy time of year to let things fall by the wayside, namely your fitness and nutrition. Just keep in mind, the key to your overall fitness is consistency. It’s ok to miss a workout once in a while, just make sure you get back in there asap!
The two most consistent people I know.
I’m tired. I’m getting over a cold. I’m too old. I’m too fat. Working out makes me sweat. It’s too cold. It’s too hot. I’m sore. I don’t have enough time. I have 2 kids. My job is too stressful. The gym is hard.
Ever catch yourself using any of these excuses? Check out Kyle Maynard, author of the book “No Excuses: The True Story of a Congenital Amputee Who Became a Champion in Wrestling and in Life.“
“Dude. Kyle Maynard is a frickin’ stud. Every time I feel sorry for myself I’m going to look at this picture and realize how pathetic I am.”
“Kyle Maynard you just did away with every lame excuss I have ever heard for someone not working out. You are an inspiration. Good luck opening the Crossfit gym, with your drive who can stop you.”
“I should be kicked in the balls for ever complaining about ANYTHING! What a motivation.”
“Kyle….in a world where everyone looks for excuses not to work and train hard, you emerge solidly and a victor and hero.”

Watch the first video, then watch the second and tell us the faults. Post what you see to comments.
The squat is an essential movement not only for athleticism, but for well being. The squat is not some exercise a trainer invented in the gym – it is in your DNA, as much a part of human movement as walking. Watch any small child playing on ground, and every time they have a perfect squat. Tragically, as we age and spend countless hours in nice comfy chairs, we lose the flexibility and range of motion to be able perform this vital movement. But with good coaching and persistence, anyone can rehabilitate themselves and work towards a perfect squat.

This is probably the number one excuse we get when giving nutrition advice. “I don’t have time to eat healthy.” It’s just not true. Here’s a video on a 2 minute salad from Mark’s Daily Apple. All the ingredients can be purchased at Costco. We have one for lunch 6 days a week!
Anyone recognize that stretch? Not bad for a for a 54 year old man!
Check out Kallista Pappas’ performance the other day at the CrossFit Games. She is cleaning and jerking her bodyweight 30 times! That is inspiration for anyone to work harder! (Video courtesy of www.crossfit.com)
We’ve got a few new faces in the gym this week, and they’ve brought a good attitude with them. Every workout I see determination on faces.
Just a reminder, Saturday’s WOD will be at 10 am from now on. They are still free, so bring some friends and see you there!

Don’t have time to work out? Too Busy? We’ve all had these excuses at one time or another. The beauty of CrossFit is the fact that it can be done anywhere, with little or no equipment. In a hotel room, in your garage, in your back yard…the possibilities are endless. The picture above is of Jodi Bainbridge, a trainer at CrossFit Fredericton. She was on her honeymoon and decided it was time for some muscle-ups…in her wedding dress! Jodi has a 290 pound deadlift at a bodyweight of 105. Obviously this kind of dedication pays off!
