NAME: Jason Sefcik
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?
I started Crossfit January 8th, 2016 and am now officially a 6 month veteran. ☺
WHAT IS YOUR ATHLETIC BACKGROUND IF ANY?
Very active and athletic growing up; three sport athlete in HS including Football and Track. Having a three year old boy has slowed me down (in some ways), but I enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, mountaineering, and climbing. Historically, I tend to go back and forth between periods of activity vs inactivity…I feel Crossfit will allow me to stay active longer.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH CROSSFIT?
I’ve been good in the past about getting into a gym to work out when I feel I needed to be active, but I’d usually get bored with my own programming and stop working out after a while. I’d always been interested in Crossfit, the Games were cool to watch, and I liked the idea of constantly varied programming that someone else made for me, so decided to give it a try. I’m an older father and want to be in shape to be able to do things with my son, now and in the future. Breaking a hip while playing catch in the front yard doesn’t appeal to me. I also want my boy to grow up valuing an active lifestyle, and that starts with me.
Hiking, climbing, etc, but mostly doing Dad stuff.
WHAT ARE THREE THINGS WE AT CROSSFIT DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I grew up in Michigan and we moved here from Denver in 2014. I’ve climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa and have ran with the Bulls in Spain.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT OUR BOX?
It doesn’t look like an old garage or warehouse, lol. Everyone gives their best effort with each workout, so it makes you want to give your best effort to keep up or exceed, and not get left behind. There’s a lot of in-shape folks at CFCDA, and most times I feel like I’m in the lower percentile…but I’ve excelled and felt strong at other boxes I’ve visited, so I think it’s a testament to the quality of people, programming, and coaches at our box.
WHAT OTHER BOXES HAVE YOU BEEN TO?
The last time we went back to Denver to visit family I went to three different boxes. I can’t recall their names but they all looked like old garages and warehouses.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS:
I am grateful to be Athlete of the Month and am very happy that CFCDA has been my first box. CF has been some of the hardest workouts I’ve ever done, but it’s amazing how your body gets used to it and you become stronger. The mental challenge is the most important, so I encourage any newbies to hang in there and stay consistent in showing up to the box.
