Athlete of the Month: Dave Hoit
Name: Dave Hoit
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
Started after my 40th Bday, November 2016.
What is your Athletic Background if any?
Played basketball in high school. In college walked on to the University of Montana Grizzlies football team. Earned a scholarship, played some football and made some life long friends. GO GRIZ!
How did you get started with CrossFit?
My friend Rob called me on my 40th birthday, “Happy Birthday! Had a great time at your party, but I got to be honest, you look like shit!” He said he would get me started if I promised to eat right and lose 100 lbs. Good friend!
What are some of your Hobbies outside Crossfit?
Dating my wife and making memories with our kids. Camping, hiking, long walks on the beach, etc. etc.
What are 3 things we at Crossfit don’t know about you?
*When I was 5 I accidentally brushed my teeth with Bengay.
*I had a short hurdling career in college.
*I’ve been a pastor at my church for almost 20 years now.
Whats your favorite thing about our Box?
Hands down the sense of family and belonging to a community. It’s the fitness version of Cheers. “Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name…”
What other boxes have you been too?
Tried one in St Louis, but there’s no place like home!

“My First Year”
The other day we did the 12 days of Christmas. I can literally remember a year ago when I saw that work out online and thought “no way!” It was so cool to see it again and realize, “yeah, I can do that. This will be a good one!” The biggest win for me this year outside of losing 100lbs and making some great friends is the transformation. Not just the physical, which is cool, but also the mental. Whether its going to the amusement park and wondering if you will fit on the rides to being invited to go backpacking and worrying about being able to make it. It is so cool to have the freedom to say, “Yeah, I would love to do that!” The biggest challenge was realizing it’s not gonna happen in a month or even 2 months or 3. Having patience and endurance has been one of the biggest challenges, but on the other side have been great rewards. Also, on the other side is the realization that you are never finished and there are more challenges and opportunities to be conquered! Thanks for an amazing year CDA Crossfit!! Love my tribe!
