“I started at Crossfit CDA June 20th, 2008. Feeling a little run down and 42 years old I was ready to get fit. I am 6’2’ and my weight was at ~255 lbs Other than some jogging and body building type exercise, I hadn’t really done much to keep myself fit since my early 20’s. I thought I looked OK but the truth is, I couldn’t do a single pull up or touch my toes.
After doing my two introductory classes to learn the fundamentals (movements, balance, posture, etc) I was ready to do my “Baseline” WOD. This was to be my first benchmark “measure of fitness” to monitor and records my progress at Crossfit.
The Baseline WOD is:
500m row
40 squats
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 pull ups.
…as fast as possible.
I managed to make it though this WOD in 10:53. And I had to use a “big boy band” to assist me with the pull ups since, as I said, I could not do a single pull up. Oh, and I almost puked. Before, during and after.
I did my Baseline WOD again on April 20th and did it in 5:03 with no band for pull-ups (I was off the bands in about a month).
Wow!!! If I had paced myself on the row I might have done better ‘cause those squats crushed me! Still, a 54% improvement is pretty awesome. I feel great. I look better (you CAN polish a turd). Crossfit is awesome. Derek, Jonathan and Megan do a great job keeping us challenged and motivated and the other victims, I mean “clients”, are great to be around. We have an awesome gym and great people. What more could you ask for? Well, I suppose free post-WOD beers would be nice….
Here I am, 10 months later. While my weight actually went up to 265lb my waistline has shrunk enough to have to add another hole to my favorite belt (down 3 holes in all!). I recently started watching my portion control at meals and cut out the grains and potatoes so I am at 253.2lb (as of May 5 2009). Not too shabby for a month of eating just enough to keep me satisfied.
One other thing…
A few months ago Catherine and I had to attend an event that required semi formal attire. I had not worn any of my suits or sports coats for almost a year. Well, none of my 48” coats would fit me anymore. I looked like Lou Ferrigno (70’s TV Hulk for all you kids out there). I had to go to Spokane and get fitted for a tailored coat. Thanks to Crossfit I now wear a 52L coat that had to be taken in at the waist!! That’s FOUR INCHES OF MUSCLE in my arms, chest and back.
Come to Crossfit CDA and GET SOME!”

“I am a 39 year old stay-at-home mom with two very active young boys. Since I have been going to CrossFit, I have never felt stronger or more confident about myself. I made a decision to stay strong so that I can always be able to keep up with our boys and CrossFit has made that possible. And, I can kick your ass because of CrossFit!”

“My name is Jarod Coon and I recently returned from ten weeks at the Idaho Police Academy. There were numerous subjects that were covered during the course of this Academy and many focused on physical fitness. However, because Law Enforcement does not concentrate on one specific area of fitness officers are forced to cover more of a broad spectrum to keep themselves in shape and on the edge in their line of work. I have been a member at CrossFit CDA for about nine months and my level of performance has been higher than it has ever been. Because CrossFit is functional movement done at high intensity and never concentrates on one specific area, it always is a challenge and will never leave you unprepared when faced with the challenges that everyday life can present. Many of my class mates had athletic events that they specialized in like running or weightlifting, but when placed in a “real life” situation where they had to role all those events into one, they were left at a disadvantage. In Law Enforcement you will never have the luxury of specializing in just one area. You might be faced with running several hundred yards after a suspect while climbing over fences which is usually enough to tire most of us out. Then after you catch this person, you will probably have to engage in one of the most physically taxing activities there are which is fighting them into restraints. All this is done while wearing around twenty five pounds of cumbersome equipment. I can honestly say that CrossFit is by far the best fitness program around. I know it gave me an edge while at the Academy and now several of my brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement are taking it back to their respective departments

“I have done sprint distance triathlons throughout my life and recently finished one this month. With absolutely no training in the swim, bike, or run since last year for a different triathlon I was amazed at the strength and endurance CrossFit gave me, and the energy I had from eating “zone.” Last year I trained only in the swim, bike, run…this year I only did CrossFit and I not only felt great afterward, but my time improved. I can’t wait to combine the training in CrossFit with the tri events for my next race.”
