Paleo Challenge

So, is everybody feeling like they need to jump start their nutrition for 2010?  Indulge in the holidays a little more than expected?  I know I did.  Enter the Paleo Challenge.

Here are the rules:

Keep a detailed food log.  What you ate, how much, and what time.

Eat Paleo foods.  Meat and veggies, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, NO SUGAR.

Get your before picture taken at the gym before Jan. 8th.

Participants will put $10 in the pot, winner takes all.  The winner will be chosen by two criteria: food intake quality, and body composition change.  Notice I didn’t say weight loss.  This isn’t the Biggest Loser.  If your body needs to lose weight you will; however, this is a poor indicator of fitness.  Body composition shifts (decreased fat and increased lean body mass) are much better for this.

Check out these pictures of JR.  I had a little over a month with him on his Paleo Challenge and the changes were awesome!

So what do you have to lose?  The worst thing that can happen is you lean out, improve your performance, and look and feel better.  The challenge starts Monday Jan. 4th and ends Feb. 1st.  Get after it!

  1. Is honey considered a sugar?

  2. Its on!!! I went grocery shopping yesterday and I think I am ready… today I will eat my last roll… or maybe not… I can’t wait till Feb 1st. I need it this so bad.

  3. Honey is a sugar. You can have it in limited quantities.

  4. This Catherine is not me (Cat/Catherine. Just so you know. I DO NOT want to make-out with Crossfit!

  5. You are a freak, Cat. I think you’re multiple personalities are springing up again!

  6. catherine, we all know you want to do it, just do it!! so happy to see you tonight! cant wait for our lunch!

  7. Paleo breakfast recipes (warning: direct link to PDF)

There’s some less than pure recipes and a lot of eggs with veggies, but there’s some other interesting stuff in there too.

FREAK! Maybe so. As far as the mulitple personalities..there is just more of me to love in so many different ways. Christmas..I only want to do IT, if you do IT with me. I just love that you are here!

  9. Really simple, tasty recipes. I love the applesauce recipe. The breakfast egg cups that are on this site are awesome but I was hungry and only had a carton All Whites eggs whites, broccoli, spinach, a tomato, and onion. Tastes awesome. I didn’t even have cups so I cooked it in a regular non-stick muffin pan at a lower temp for a little longer. It’s a throw together whatever however recipe. Luv it.

  10. I love the Paleo Diet! I’m not hungry, the food tastes great, but I have too much energy and have trouble falling asleep at night. I can see a big difference already. Especially around the mid-section.

  11. I DID love the paleo challenge(because it is working) until I found out that it may not end until AFTER superbowl weekend. I am going on paleo challenge protest and kindly requesting that it end prior to the biggest eating and drinking weekend of the year. Who’s with me? I vote for ending Febuary 3rd or 4th!

  12. I wouldn’t mind it going 90 days with a 30 and 60 day review of progress. That would give folks an opportunity to tweak their program if needed and get some dramatic results.

  13. I like Mark’s idea, but I’m also thinking a cheat day would be nice in a few weeks.

  14. I like Mark’s idea a lot too! I think all of us will have lost a few pounds by month end, but I don’t thing 30 days is long enough to significantly change body make up, but 90 sure would be!

  15. You guys didn’t give me the response I was looking for….turkeys! See if I ask you again for help;-)

  16. 90 days gives you room for a cheat day…i already had mine.

  17. What’s this about the contest going past Superbowl weekend? Am I wrong in my understanding that the contest ends the 1st!? Jen…you can have as many cheat days as you want :)

  18. That’s it, STein! Stick with me on this one…

  19. I want it to go for longer because a month isn’t long enough. I want to see a huge difference!

  20. The beauty of this is you can, and should go as long as you want. It’s not a 30 day challenge, it’s a lifestyle change. We want you to go for 30 days super strict, then continue the changes you’ve made.
